Long-Distance Movers Ann Arbor: Moving Across Michigan With Hi-Five
Most of our moves stay close to home in Southeast Michigan. But plenty of our customers are headed farther, to Grand Rapids, Lansing, Traverse City, and everywhere in between.
The questions are always the same: who's handling my stuff, how far ahead do I book, and what will it cost? Here's what a long-distance move with Hi-Five actually looks like, so there are no surprises on moving day.
What Counts as a Long-Distance Move?
For us, a long-distance move is any move that starts in our home area and ends somewhere else in Michigan. That includes Grand Rapids, Lansing, Flint, Kalamazoo, and Traverse City.
A move like this gets planned differently than a move across town. We schedule more lead time, lock in a firmer timeline, and talk through the details up front, so the day runs on schedule from the first box to the last.
How Hi-Five Handles a Long-Distance Move
It's the same full-service move we do every day, just with a longer drive in the middle. Our residential moving services cover:
- Packing and wrapping furniture with blankets, pads and shrink wrap
- Taking apart beds, desks and other large pieces, then putting them back together
- Loading the truck with safety-first stacking
- Driving your belongings to your new home in our own truck
- Unloading carefully and setting up in your new space
When we can, we walk through your place ahead of time. That way that the crew already knows which pieces need extra hands, where the tight turns are, and how to protect your floors and doorways.
The Same Crew, Start to Finish
There's no handoff to strangers halfway across the state. Hi-Five is a small team led by founder Dilon Page, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and Ann Arbor native, and he's on-site for every move. We don't use temps or third-party contractors. The crew that loads your truck is the crew that unloads it at your new home.
What a Long-Distance Move Costs
The price of a long-distance move depends on three things: the size of your move, the distance, and the services you need. A full-service move with packing costs more than a partial-service move, and a longer drive costs more than a shorter one.
Either way, you get a clear quote up front, with no hidden fees and no surprise charges once the truck shows up. Call (734) 262-9336 or

When to Book
Book at least two to four weeks before your moving date. Late spring and summer are the busiest months and fill up fast, so book even earlier if you're moving then. If your dates are flexible, fall and winter usually offer more open scheduling.
Lighten the Load Before You Go
A long-distance move is the best time to get rid of what you don't want to haul across the state. Our junk removal service can clear out old furniture, garage clutter and anything else you're leaving behind. We can do it the same day as your move or schedule it separately. If you're closing on a new place or wrapping up a lease, our move-in/move-out services handle the turnaround on both ends.
Where We Move From
We handle long-distance moves starting from Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Canton, Dearborn, Detroit, and Westland, plus the rest of Washtenaw County. Not sure if your starting address is covered? See all the areas we serve, or just call. We can almost always make it work.
